3rd Grade "Around One Cactus" Desert Collages
3rd Grade students created colorful collages of desert sunsets and silhouettes.
We read the story "Around One Cactus, Owls, Bats, and Leaping Rats" in art class and students also read the story in ELA . The story is set in rhyme and teaches about the desert animals and their habitat. Animals included the Kangaroo Rat, Kit Fox, Diamondback Rattlesnake, Long Nosed Lesser Bat, Elf Owl, Scorpion,
and Gila Monster. The Students created tissue paper sunsets in layers of gradating colors (value). Students chose at least three of the animals mentioned in the story and created silhouettes (shapes) in black paper, along with at least one cactus silhouette.
