5th Grade: Hip Hop Self Portraits
5th grade art students each created three different Self Portraits: Academic - focusing on proportion and shading, Artist Style; applying an element borrowed from a famous artist studied in art, and Manga/Hip Hop Persona style.
As part of their Hip-Hop / Graffiti art and slam poetry, 5th grade students created "Hip-Hop" names for themselves. They created graffiti style art using their Hip-Hop names. Students learned Manga style basics in art class, practicing on existing characters. They then created self portraits depicting their "Hip-Hop Personas" in mixed media., applying the Manga style techniques.
