Tableau in Martell's 5th Grade
We performed tableaus after each unit of Reading Street. Students were put into groups, and given a main selection to reenact three events. Students had to determine importance in order to choose the scenes, events, or situations that would retell the selection to the audience. They were allowed to move for a few seconds and then had to freeze into their tableau at the end. The audience then identified the selection and the parts that were being reenacted. Writing and Presenting in Martell's 5th Grade
Students are working hard on the writing of their Where I'm From poems to add to their reflective portfolio of 5th grade. They are paying particular attention to figurative language and showing where they are from instead of just telling where they are from. Volunteers then presented their poems to the class.
Figurative Language in Martell's Class
Students brainstormed 3 abstract nouns, a color, 3 concrete nouns and action verbs. They then had to group those words together in order to create figurative language. When finished, we took all of our similes and metaphors and created this poem. Watch our video here.
Tableau in Ms. Brown's 4th Grade Class
Students are doing a version of tableau (I let them use movement) using our vocabulary words for Reading Street. The one of Jacob on the floor is him pretending to be a skunk for the word "scent." Ben is a boat coming into the "docks" which are the other kids on the floor. Grace is a bird "migrating". Savannah is on a horse pretending to "scan" the environment.
