4th Grade U.S. Regions
Mrs. McRae and Ms. Brown's 4th grade classes learned about each of the regions of the United States through 5 units: Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and West. The students learned all of the states, capitals and abbreviations, as well as resources and industries, geographic features, and culture of each region. They then chose a state to research using books and internet search engines. Throughout the rest of the school year, the students applied their knowledge of US regions through art-integrated activities in each of their specials classes. In art, students created ceramic state plaques based on their state research reports. The states will fit together to demonstrate regions of the U.S. In music, students discussed and listened to regional music from the past and present. In physical education, students took part in an “Amazing Race” obstacle course using information and activities from each US region. Students created a Google Slides presentation on their individual states in Technology. This unit will culminate in a US Region Showcase Day at the end of the year, with each 4th grade class creating a region station to visit.

U.S. Regions - Art
4th grade art students in Mrs. McRae's and Ms. Brown's classes created the individual states in ceramics and glazed them according to their region.
Ms. Brown's students voted on the 5 glaze colors used to represent each region. West: Hunter Green, Midwest: Naranja (orange), Northeast : Blue Teal, Southeast: Maroon, Southwest: Frog's Pond (green). Students used the state abbreviations and chose at least two state symbols, landmarks or industries from their research to represent each their state.
Mrs. Babbitt's and Mrs. Balmer's 4th grade art classes created smaller versions of the United Staes and represented the regions using different glazes and created symbols to identify each region.

U.S. State Google Slides
Mrs. McRae and Ms. Brown's classes created Google Slides presentations on their individual states in technology class. Students learned how to create the Slides presentation, inserting their research facts, images and animation. Click on the State below to see students presentations.
