Tableaus to Demonstrate the core democratic values
Students worked cooperatively in small groups to develop tableaus to demonstrate a core democratic value. When teaching tableaus, the students learned how the formation and movement of their bodies can express an idea. The rest of the class used the knowledge they had gained throughout the unit to determine which core democratic value was being demonstrated. In the image in the upper left, Maverick,Marshall, Raveela, and Richard were showing the class religious freedom. In the middle image, Allexxsia, Sage, Katelin, and Rhian were showing pursuit of happiness by spending time with their pets (a dog and bunny). In the image on the right, Ashley, Kaylee, Megan, and Jasmine are showing common good by picking up and throwing away trash.
Using Movement to learn the Continents, Oceans, and Hemispheres
Students used movement to help them learn the location of all the continents, oceans, and hemispheres. It was great to see them even using the motions during the test! Watch the video here.
USING TABLEAU TO COMPARE NATIVE AMERICAN REGIONSStudents use tableau to compare regions. Groups split into two. One half of the group was the Eastern Woodland region and the other half chose another region. They then picked a characteristic and compared it. In the image to the left, Mikayla and Elizabeth are showing the hunting and fishing found in the Eastern Woodlands. To the right, Eva, Ravan, and Gabbi are showing the hunting of the buffalo in the Plains and the prized parts of the buffalo that were eaten.

Indians Never Will
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Indians never will. So many places never seen So many places never found All you ever see is ground Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Indians never will. LOL means lots of land So many Indians we have to ban Even if you have to go through the sand Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Indians never will. So many Indians we have to kill Even if we make them ill Fountain of Youth, Seven Cities of Gold Even if we have to fight the old Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Indians never will. Living Like a Native
G.O.O.L. (Get off our land) Sharing is caring and we don't care, So go over there before you run into a bear. Living like a native Being like a native Fighting like a native Life is like defending our land, Which is like telling stories by the fire, Which is like trading furs and wampum. Fighting is our life. Living like a native Being like a native Fighting like a native White man, foolish, the way he attack. Indian, smart, come from the back. By: Michael D. and Jaxon K. |
