3rd Grade: The Big Zoo Experience
3rd grade students from Ms. Kane's class attended Potter Park Zoo School for one week, learning about specific animals through observation, sketching, writing and research. Students learned to sketch animals in art class before attending the zoo. Students kept detailed notebooks throughout the week and brought those notebooks to art. We put what they learned at zoo school to work by creating "Animal Vessels" in clay and "Animal Masks" . The students used their animal masks in computer class to video record "animal interviews" demonstrating what they learned about their animals.
Animal Masks & QR Codes
In technology class with Mrs. Smith, Ms. Kane's class typed out three facts they learned during their observations of their animal at Potter Park Zoo. Students then recorded themselves reading their facts. They took their recordings and turned them into QR codes. The OR codes are displayed with the zoo masks for families and visitors to hear using an QR app.
