RESIDENCY Experiences
Liz Wylegala
This was our classroom visit with Liz Wylegala. We read about dogs and cats before our visit with Liz. She taught the students how to draw and water color a dog or cat. After the visit the students wrote stories about their paintings.
Liz Wylegala also visited Mrs. McRae's 4th grade class to create watercolor artwork based on the figurative language of similes - comparison statements using "like" or "as."
Author and illustrator, Dawn McVay, reads one of her children's books about Michigan and shares the illustrations.
Liz Wylegala, our guest artist, observing the creativity of the students.
Sarah Reule Hendrickson
5th graders had a classroom residency with actress Sarah Reule Hendrickson. She worked with the students on a sequence of arts-integrated lessons that focused on using improv exercises to teach the students creativity, along with classroom camaraderie and cooperation.
Wharton Play
For many of our student students this was their first time seeing and play at the Wharton Center, as well as a musical. In Social Studies we learned about Laura Ingalls Wilder and seeing the play was a wonderful connection. Learning about our past makes connections
Ms. Brown's class eagerly waits for the play to begin.
