4th Grade: Food Chain Mobiles
4th grade art students from Ms. Alexander's and Mr. Fangboner's classes integrated visual art and science to create "Food Chain Mobiles" in ceramics with Mrs. Shoup. Ms. Alexander's science classes learn about and draw "food webs" including predators, herbivores, and vegetation. Predators included hawks, owls, ferrets, and snakes. Herbivores included rabbits, mice, and prairie dogs. Vegetation examples include sage, grass, and bushes. Students came to art class with their new knowledge of food webs and chose from the same lists of animals and vegetation to design, create, and construct ceramic mobiles. This was our first year to create these and the students did a great job. The mobiles are science based, and artistically created. Some examples are quite accurate in their depiction while others are whimsical, but all reinforce cross curricular collaboration.
